OBITUARY: Caterina Barberi, 91

WILMINGTON, MA — Caterina Barberi (Scibilia), age 91, of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025.

Caterina was born on March 12, 1934, in Spadafora ,Messina, Sicily; she was the cherished daughter of the late Carmelo Scibilia and Annunziata (Biancuzzo). Caterina was raised in Sicily and was the oldest of five children.

Caterina was the beloved wife of the late Paolo Barberi, devoted mother of Concetta “Connie” Trio and her late husband Joseph of Wilmington, MA, Pietro Barberi and his companion Rachael Britton of Charlestown, MA, and her late infant son Carmelo Barberi.

Loving “Nonna” of Pat, Natalie, Laurene, David, Paul, Joseph, Adrienne, and Pietro Jr. and Great-Grandmother to 12 Great-Grandchildren. Caterina was the dear sister of Maria Cardone and her late husband Pancrazio of Pelham, NH, Angela Ianello and her late husband Matteo of Saugus, MA, Giuseppe Scibilia and his wife Maureen of Melrose, MA, and Eleonora Palladino and her late husband Enrico of Melrose, MA.

Caterina is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends both here in the United States and in Sicily.

Family and friends are welcome to attend Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Friday, December 5th from 9:00-10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Caterina’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
