The Social Impact of Tea in Our History

Join us for an engaging discussion on the social impact of tea in our history and society.
We will begin with the discovery of tea and learn first about the spread of tea throughout Europe. The tea trade with China and the Opium Wars, its impact on the US, and the First World War will be discussed, and the current status of tea today. Tea samples will be provided!

Gingerbread House Making!
Monday, December 8, Two Sessions: 3:45pm and 6pm
Decorate your very own gingerbread house with graham crackers and candy! Kids can use frosting and graham crackers to construct a house of their own design. Optional: To make your structure stronger and make the construction process easier, attendees can bring a milk carton (8 fl oz or smaller) to use as a base. Kids of All Ages
Silhouette Portrait Craft

Make silhouette portraits to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth! Using the Cricut, we’ll mimic the 19th century hollow cut technique with paper and frames. Teens & Adults
Virtual: Playful Pathways- Parent Book Club

Join this once-a-month book club for busy parents and read one book at a time over the course of a few months! Our next read is The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Save the Date!
Mark your calendars for an evening with author and local sportscaster Michael Holley, on May 14th! A Boston sports journalist, author and broadcaster, Michael Holley hosts shows on NBC Sports Boston and 98.5 The Sports Hub, while teaching at Boston University. A former Boston Globe journalist, he’s also appeared on ESPN and Peacock. There will be a cash bar, book sales & autograph signing. This is a free event, open to all.
Book Store Next Door
Celebrate the winter holidays with the Friends of the Library Bookstore Next Door! All November and December holiday-themed books are half-off to help you give the gift of literature this season. While the store will be open for last-minute shopping on Saturday, Dec. 20, it will be closed the following dates: Wednesday, Nov. 26, Wednesday, Dec. 24, Saturday, Dec. 27 and Wednesday, Dec. 31. In January, the Bookstore Next Door will be open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through March.
