Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Department Of Public Works:
WILMINGTON, MA — Please be advised that roadway widening, realignment, and resurfacing work will be taking place along Salem Street, near the easterly entrance to 800 Salem Street (new Amazon facility). The work will include roadway widening, realignment, inclusion of an eastbound lefthand storage lane, and resurfacing along this section of Salem Street. This work is being performed by a private contractor working for the developer of the Amazon facility and has been reviewed and approved by the Town.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday October 29, 2025, and expected to be completed by Saturday, November 15, 2025. One (1) night of roadwork is anticipated during this period. The following is a brief description of schedule and the two phases of work to be undertaken by the contractor:
Work Phases (2)
Phase I – Daytime work – minimal traffic disruption; mostly work within the westbound road shoulder and soft shoulder:
Two (2) police officers will be requested for traffic control, and a temporary lane shift will be implemented while maintaining two lanes of traffic on Salem Street for most of the work. However, there may be brief intermittent periods throughout the day shift where a single lane (alternating traffic) is needed to accommodate worker and commuter safety. Tentative schedule provided by the contractor:
– 10/29 – 11/04: Remove loam/organics, remove existing curb, perform subgrade preparation, and place gravel in widened areas
– 11/05: Installation binder paving course
– 11/06: Installation of new curbing
Phase II – Nighttime work – single lane of alternating traffic:
This phase involves typical roadway milling and paving operations for approximately 900 FT of Salem Street. A single lane closure with alternating traffic will be necessary during both milling and paving operations; WPD will be contacted by the contractor for the requisite police details. Tentative schedule provided by the contractor:
– 11/11(PM)-11/12(AM): Nightwork (9PM to 5AM) – roadway milling and paving
– TBD: Lane striping
Variable Electronic Message Boards:
The contractor will install variable electronic message boards from 10/29 – 11/14 with the following messages:
– Display 1: “Road Work Ahead – 10/29–11/14”
– Display 2: “Proceed with Caution”
One week in advance of Phase II commencing, the message board will be updated to notify drivers of upcoming nighttime paving work.
