Below is an obituary from Conte Funeral Home:
NORTH ANDOVER, MA — John J. Benincasa, Age 91 of North Andover, MA, son of Frank and Theresa, passed away on October 7, 2025. He was born in Queens, NY on November 28, 1933. John leaves behind his beloved wife and high school sweetheart Joan (Siedenburg) Benincasa to whom he was married for more than 68 years. He was the devoted father of Nancy Paul (Brent Jacobsen), Chris Benincasa (Karen Hurst) Justin Benincasa (Grace Testa), Lisa Mroczek (Benjamin Mroczek) and father-in-law to the late Henry R. Paul Jr. His was a loving Grandpa to Alexander (Molly Kover), Adam, Meghan, Kristen, Courtney, Olivia, John Thomas and Nathaniel. He is survived by his younger sister Theresa Caporossi (Andrew Caporossi).
John graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics and the University of Hartford with a BS in Engineering. He was drafted into the US Airforce in 1957. As an aeronautical engineer he was released early on a critical skills shortage and began a long career in aeronautical engineering, working on iconic aircraft and spacecraft for companies such as Grumman Aerospace Corporation, Sikorsky and Kaman Aircraft. At 62 he retired as Vice President of Marketing at Dynamics Research Corporation in Wilmington, MA.
In his retirement he continued to pursue his passion of aeronautics, designing and building remote control model airplanes – some with wing spans as large as seven feet. Some with never seen before experimental designs. To him, it was the journey and the challenge that was important. He started his days with strong hand ground coffee and all his engineering books – ready to conquer. As president of his RC Flying Club, he loved time in “the field” flying and exchanging information with other club members who shared his passion. He enjoyed world travel with his loving wife Joan and was her number one fan when it came to her beautiful artwork.
His favorite times were those spent with his children and grandchildren at family gatherings, whether on the beach in Kennebunkport, celebrating the holidays, or a casual dinner. He appreciated a glass of good wine and would always ask what was new in your job or life, listening closely and offering thoughtful advice. He simply enjoyed being present with his family.
He was a natural life coach, teaching his children and grandchildren the importance of pedaling hard, maintaining a strong sense of empowerment, and always staying curious about the world. In his later years, despite his physical decline, he still dressed like a gentleman every day, read voraciously, kept up with current events, and solved daily math puzzles.
His family will deeply miss him.
His family will be holding a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
