OBITUARY: Michelle Flaherty, 56

WILMINGTON, MA — Michelle Flaherty, age 56, a longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2025.

Born in Somerville, MA on November 12, 1968, Michelle was the cherished daughter of Joanne (Bishop) Flaherty and the late Robert D. Flaherty. She grew up in Somerville before settling in Wilmington nearly 30 years ago, where she quickly became a well-loved member of the community.

Michelle had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life; she loved listening to music, playing video games, and had a special fondness for animals, especially dogs. Her beloved dog, Kiki, was her constant companion and a source of great comfort and joy.

For many years, Michelle worked at Home Depot, where her bright smile and cheery disposition made her a favorite among customers and coworkers alike. Many customers would even bring their pets by just to visit her. Later, she worked as a demonstrator and greeter at BJ’s Wholesale Club, where she continued to share her warmth and positivity with everyone she met. Michelle truly loved her work, her colleagues, and the many friendships she built through her years of service.

Despite facing medical challenges throughout her life, Michelle remained remarkably positive and resilient. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Michelle is survived by her devoted mother Joanne Flaherty of Wilmington; her special aunt and uncles Suzanne Flaherty Blauvelt, Michael LaTerza, and Leo LaTerza; her dear cousin Maryellen Harris; and her best friend Myra Amaro. She is also survived by her extended family and many friends, all of whom she loved deeply. Michelle will be sorely missed by her loyal dog, Kiki.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert D. Flaherty, and her brother, Robert D. Flaherty, Jr., who no doubt will be waiting to greet her with open arms.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, October 11th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., with a service to follow at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester, MA.
