Below is a message from Wilmington Town Moderator Jonathan Eaton:
Given the level of interest in the upcoming Special Town Meeting on Saturday, September 13, 2025, below please find answers to some of the more frequent questions that have been asked in the last few weeks.
I Voted Last Year. Do I Need to Check My Voter Registration Status?
Yes, you should. Often, people become “inactive” voters if they do not return their census. If that is the case, they can become “active” again if they show a Massachusetts identification with their Wilmington address, or proof of residency (such as a bill with your address on it). This takes time, and slows down the check-in line, so please check your voter registration status here to ensure that you are active.
How Long Will the Meeting Last?
This is probably the question that I have been asked the most, and the most difficult to project. I expect that the meeting will take a few hours.
When Should I Get There?
Check-in starts at 8, and the sooner that you are checked in, the more manageable the line becomes for our workers, and the sooner we can start the meeting. As parking will start to fill up quickly, I recommend arriving by 8:15.
Where Should I Park?
Parking will be available in the following locations, with those marked with * indicating that a bus will be picking up residents to drop them off in front of the entrance to the high school. We have created a map to illustrate what parking is available.
- High school teachers’ lot
- Thomas lot (126 Middlesex Ave)*
- Knights of Columbus lot (112 Middlesex Ave) (parking for drop-off child care)*
- Congregational Church (220 Middlesex Ave)*
- Library (175 Middlesex Ave)
- Library Overflow lot (behind Nichols Funeral Home)*
- Book Store Next Door lot (185 Middlesex Ave)
- Abundant Life (173 Church Street)
- Student Parking/Fourth of July Building lot (142 Middlesex Ave)
- Old Senior Center/Buzzell School (15 School Street)*
- Old Town Hall/Arts Center/Student Support Services (219 Middlesex Ave)*
- United Methodist Church (87 Church Street)*
- Rotary Park (Adelaide Street)*
- Roman House lot (161 Church Street)
- Softball Field lot (across from cemetery on Wildwood Street)*
- Wildwood School lot (182 Wildwood Street)*
Additionally, the high school’s Church Street entrance next to the Roman House will be open for dropping off those with mobility issues. The doors at that entrance will be open.
So, How Does a Town Meeting Work?
We have put together a lot of materials on the town meeting page on WilmingtonMA.gov. That includes a Citizen’s Guide to Town Meeting, a letter from me detailing some of the procedure behind how a town meeting operates, a list of FAQs, a four-minute long video on the basics of town meeting, and more.
What if I Have a Question Not Answered Above?
Please feel free to email me at moderator@wilmingtonma.gov. Additionally, I will be having a virtual office hour via Zoom on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10am to 11am. The Wilmington Apple will be posting the meeting link on its Facebook page at 10am.
