OBITUARY: Richard J. Forrestall, 89

WILMINGTON, MA — Richard J. Forrestall, age 89, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025.

Richard was born in Boston, MA, on July 11, 1936; he was the only child of the late Wilfred J. and Gladys (Fitzmeyer) Forrestall. Richard was raised and educated in East Boston, MA.

Richard was very talented when it came to working with his hands; he could fix or do just about anything. Richard owned a few businesses throughout the years; he was a talented machinist and the owner/operator of the Bicycle Depot shop in Wilmington. Richard was also a clever inventor and was instrumental in creating the recumbent bicycle. When he put his mind into building, fixing, or creating something new he was “all in” even building the family home.

In his spare time, Richard looked forward to heading to Gloucester and Ipswich where he loved to be on the ocean; he was an avid boater and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Richard also enjoyed traveling and touring all over the United States National Parks with his wife Barbara; one of their favorite summer places to visit was Bar Harbor, Maine.

Richard will be fondly remembered as an easy-going guy with a quiet demeanor. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Richard was the beloved husband of Barbara J. (Leonard) Forrestall, father of Paula Brawn and her husband Kenny, Michelle Forrestall Lee, William Forrestall and his wife Kim, Linda Trott and her husband Michael, Robert Forrestall and his wife Linda, and Kelly Doucette and her husband Tom. Richard was the grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

At his request all services will be private.
