SENIOR CENTER SPOTLIGHT: Free Fall Prevention Assessments For Seniors

WILMINGTON, MA — Have you had a fall in the past or are you afraid of falling? You’re not alone — and support is available. The Tri-Ton Coalition’s Public Health Nurse, Rebecca Marion, RN is offering free Fall Risk Assessments by appointment for Wilmington residents, to help improve safety, boost confidence, and address concerns about falling and safety hazards.

This program is especially beneficial for anyone who has experienced a fall, is fearful of falling, or has noticed a decrease in balance or strength. The assessment follows the CDC’s STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries) initiative, which focuses on three core elements: Screen, Assess, and Intervene to help reduce fall risk.

During your one-hour appointment, medical history and current medications will be reviewed and three short tests to evaluate balance and strength will be given. In addition, recommendations for fall prevention strategies will be provided.

If you are interested, call the Senior Center to sign up for an appointment at 978-657-7595.
