OBITUARY: John Paul Casey, Jr., 83

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — John P. Casey, Jr., age 83, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

John was born in Charlestown, MA, on December 17, 1941; he was the cherished son of the late John and Elizabeth (Murray) Casey. John was raised and educated in Charlestown and part of a large, Irish Catholic family.

Following High School, John enlisted in the United States Army on September 25, 1962. He proudly served during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Korea. John was honorably discharged on September 24, 1965, and returned home to his family.

John married “his sweetheart” Lucille Buco on May 20, 1967, sharing over 56 years of marriage and making many wonderful memories with family and friends throughout the years. John and Lucille moved to Wilmington in 1975, where they raised their son John who was their pride and joy. John was a devoted dad who had a special bond with his son throughout his life; they shared a love of sports especially football, when not watching sports, they loved to talk about sports or enjoyed just hanging out together. John loved his family unconditionally; he and his wife Lucille were very special to all of their nieces and nephews who admired them.

John was a hard worker throughout his life; for more than 45 years he was a lineman for the phone company. John witnessed so many changes in the communications field through the years and had to keep himself educated as the phone company and technology advanced.

John was very proud of his Irish heritage; he travelled back to Ireland to visit with family and friends in Waterford and shared many stories of when he lived there with his dad for an extended time or his love of riding his horse Dolly bareback on the family farm.

In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and boating all over the North Shore, Cape Ann, and even Cape Cod with his wife Lucille. He was an avid golfer and loved to follow the New England Patriots.

John will be fondly remembered as a “great guy” who had a kind word for everyone, a true gentleman who would do anything for anyone. He lived in Wilmington for over 50 years but never forgot his roots in Charlestown; he was a true “townie”. John was also passionate about all his dogs; a dog trainer at heart and was especially fond of his dog “little Bubba”. John’s passing has left a void but the treasured memories of him will live on in those who loved him.

John’s family would like to give a special thank you to the folks at Assisting Hands and Care Dimensions Hospice for their care and kindness in helping John throughout his illness.

John is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Lucille C. (Buco) Casey, he was the loving dad of John C. Casey both of Wilmington, cherished “Grampy” of Leah Casey and Brendan Casey. Special Uncle of Cathy Fico, Ellen Cremens, Mary Cremens, Davin and Monica Napolitano, as well as a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and family in Ireland as well as many friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, June 24th from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 noon concluding with a Service at 12:00 noon.
