Wages Effective 7/1/2025:
Water Treatment Plant Attendant (G-4):
Treatment License Grade 2-4 (OIT) $1,187.10/wk – $1,388.74/wk
Water Treatment Plant Operator II (G-5):
Treatment License Grade 2 (Full) $1,279.43/wk – $1,496.75/wk
Water Treatment Plant Operator I (G-6):
Treatment License Grade 3 (Full) $1,383.48/wk – $1,618.48/wk
Hours: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Monday – Friday (work every fourth weekend)
On-Call Duty every 4th week
Location: Water Treatment Plant

DEFINITION
Skilled work in the production of high quality, safe drinking water, and the maintenance of water treatment plant equipment; all other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Works under the direct supervision of the Treatment Plant Chief Operator and under the general supervision of the Public Works Deputy Director and Public Works Director; follows established and prescribed routine.
• Makes occasional contact with the police department, town officials, state and federal agencies, and the general public.
• Uses independent judgment to maintain safe drinking water and avoid damage to equipment.
• Avoids errors which could jeopardize personal and public safety, damage equipment, or cause excessive costs.
• Tests water quality using laboratory equipment.
• Operates and maintains valves, pumps, motors and chemical feed pumps; checks equipment used in treatment process and remote wells; maintains lime slurry piping system and sump pump.
• Records readings of instruments monitoring treatment process; maintains operation logs and maintenance and repair records.
• Monitors chemical usage; calibrates chemical solution pumps and chemical feeders; adds treatment chemicals as needed; handles chlorine cylinders.
• Prepares and packages water quality samples for shipment to laboratories.
• Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment; cleans and services all equipment and instrumentation as directed.
• Maintains clean and orderly conditions at the treatment plants and well facilities; provides general custodial care of grounds and buildings.
• Ensures that stocks of chemicals, laboratory supplies and other necessary equipment are adequate.
• Work in general is performed under typical shop conditions but with occasional heavy physical effort, including lifting 110 lb. drums.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation; two years’ experience in water field with emphasis on treatment activities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILL
Considerable knowledge of treatment plant operation and maintenance. Mechanical ability. MA Drinking Water Supply Facilities License (Minimum Grade 2OIT).
