Below is a press release from the Ipswich River Watershed Association:
IPSWICH, MA — The Ipswich River Watershed Association (IRWA) is proud to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month with a series of joyful, inclusive events designed to build community and deepen our connection to the natural world. This year, IRWA invites families, allies, and LGBTQIA+ individuals of all ages to take part in three special on the beautiful Ipswich River.
Family Pride Paddle – Wednesday, June 12
This gentle paddle is a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ youth and their families to enjoy the river together. Special guest Dr. Viola Voilà—a gifted violist, music educator, and drag entertainer—will join us on the water, filling the river with music and joy. LGBTQIA+ community members will also be present to offer encouragement and support to both youth and their families. Boats, paddles, and life vests are provided. No experience necessary.
Breathe with Pride – Sunday, June 22
A new addition to IRWA’s Pride programming, Breathe with Pride is a nature-based wellness event designed for LGBTQIA+ adults and allies. This peaceful Sunday morning event will feature guided breathing, gentle movement, and quiet connection with the river, in a supportive and affirming environment.
3rd Annual Pride Paddle – Monday, July 15
Our signature Pride event returns for a third year! Join fellow LGBTQIA+ adults and allies for a relaxed evening paddle in celebration of queer joy, nature, and community. Whether you’re a first-time paddler or an experienced river-goer, you’re welcome here. IRWA provides gear and guidance.
“We believe that everyone should feel safe and celebrated in nature,” said Carla Villa,
Engagement Manager at IRWA. “These events are about creating space where LGBTQIA+
people and families can connect with each other and with the river in a spirit of joy, inclusion,
and belonging.”
All events are free or low-cost and open to the public, with advance registration required. For
details and to sign up, visit www.ipswichriver.org/calendar.
