OBITUARY: Carole A. (Newell) (Benoit) Malarkey, 82

LOWELL, MA — Carole A. (Newell) (Benoit) Malarkey, 82, a life long resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Monday June 2, 2025 surrounded by her two loving daughters.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 6, 1942, the daughter of the late Harold J.Newell, Sr. and the late Alice G. (Stacy) Newell, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1960 as a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to attend Lowell Commercial College.

From 1972 to 2014, Carole was a commercial lines representative with the former Norcross and Leighton Insurance Company in Lowell and later HUB International in Wilmington, MA.

A devoted mother and a voracious reader, Carole enjoyed all types of music, playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved being with family, her dog Molly and her cats Phoebe and Pippin.

Carole is survived by two daughters Brenda A. (Benoit) Coady of North Chelmsford and Carolyn A.K. Benoit of Tyngsboro; two grandchildren Evan P. Coady of North Chelmsford, MA, and Emily F. Jussaume of Tyngsboro, MA; two sisters Dottie McGaunn and her husband Roy of Londonderry, NH, and Francine Rodricks and her husband Dana of Lowell; a brother Henry J. Newell and his wife Alice of Ogunquit, ME; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She was also predeceased by her uncle Francis B. “Pappy” Newell, who raised her; her siblings Frances A. “Baby Susie” Newell, Ruth F. Martell, Harry J. Newell; her in-laws Gerry McGuann, Marcia Newell, Joe Martell; her former husband and dear friend Leo “Benny” Benoit; and her best friends Terry and Kevin J. Cregg.

Friends may call on Monday June 9, 2025, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service to be held Tuesday morning June 10, 2025, at the Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. followed by her committal prayers service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
