Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — William R. Wiseman Jr., “Bill”, age 81, of Wilmington a former 38-year resident of Melrose, passed away May 29, 2025, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
Bill was born December 31, 1943, the youngest son of the late William and Edith (McCabe) Wiseman. He was raised in a multigenerational family in Saugus, attended Saugus public schools, graduating in the Class of 1962.
After attending Mass Trade School of Boston, he followed in the footsteps of his late father and his brother Fred to work at General Electric. He applied for every advancement opportunity offered to him. He was a machinist and he worked his way up to a Computer Planner in the jet engine division. Bill took an early retirement in 1999 to spend more time with his family.
Bill married his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kate Moynihan) Wiseman in April of 1969 and shared more than 56 years together. They bought their first home in Melrose in 1972, where they raised their wonderful son, Eric. They were always supportive and proud of him. When Eric married Courtney, she became “the daughter” they always wanted. Their world became brighter and complete at the birth of their only grandson, Dylan in 2009.
In 2010 they moved to Wilmington to be closer to Eric’s family. They thoroughly treasured being included in all family activities. They had a seasonal place in Wells Beach, ME where they shared some of their happiest memories with countless family and friends.
Bill was an avid hobbyist. He worked with Eric to restore a ’67 Camaro. When Eric was young they enjoyed fishing and scouting activities. Bill’s other extensive interests included computers, aquariums and model trains. He was a member of the Boston High-Railers Train Club, of Melrose and continued his membership when the Club moved to Wilmington.
Bill was very proud of his 52 years of sobriety as an active member of AA. He continued to sponsor many people, never forgetting that there were wonderful people who helped him when he first came around.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his cherished wife, Kathleen “Kate” of Wilmington; devoted son Eric and daughter-in-law Courtney; and especially for the joy he found in being a beloved Grampy to Dylan, all of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Plugis and many caring nieces and nephews and their families.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave (Rte 62) Wilmington on Thursday, June 5th from 4-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:45 PM. A private burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of your choice.
