The EPA recently provided a community update on the Olin Chemical Superfund Site:
Community Update (Spring 2025)
Olin Chemical Superfund Site – Wilmington, Mass.
In March, EPA and MassDEP approved Olin’s work plans to collect the additional data necessary to design the soil and groundwater cleanup systems. These work plans are for the soil contamination on the 51 Eames Street property and the pools of Dense Aqueous Phase Liquid (DAPL) and groundwater hot spots.
Olin collected soil samples from March to May, with some additional sampling planned for later in the season when it is less rainy and the water table is lower.
Field work for the groundwater activities, including work to design the pilot groundwater treatment system, will begin this summer.
Under EPA oversight, Olin continues to collect information to address groundwater data gaps. This data will help refine and improve the effectiveness of future groundwater remediation.
