WILMINGTON, MA — Richard Francis Sardynski, a longtime resident of Wilmington MA, passed away on May 18, 2025, at Lifecare of Merrimack Valley after a brave fight with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81 years old.

Richard was born on August 6, 1943, the only child of the late Stanley Sardynski and Frances (Ulbin) Sardynski. He grew up in Chelsea MA and graduated from Chelsea High School with the class of 1961.

In his childhood and teen years, Richard was an accomplished accordion player. After high school Richard enlisted in the US Navy, serving most proudly on the USS Harlan R. Dickson.

Richard was introduced to his wife Barbara through mutual friends in 1963. They fell in love, married in 1965 and moved to Norwood, MA, where they welcomed their first child Kimberly.

In 1971, Richard and his wife moved to Wilmington and welcomed their second child Kristen. They later settled in North Wilmington where Richard’s parents also came to live. After his parents’ passing, Richard and Barbara were thrilled to welcome their daughter Kimberly and her

family back into their home, where they were able to watch their two grandchildren Samantha and Brendan grow into wonderful young adults.

Richard worked as a truck driver for most of his life, driving for UPS, White Westinghouse, Cardinal Health, and retired as a shop steward from Salem Paper in Tewksbury. Richard was a very proud member of the Teamsters local 42 and served as Trustee of the Joint Council 10 New England before his retirement.

Richard’s volunteer work included serving as a Bingo Caller for many years at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Chelsea. MA, where he made many friends, and served as the treasurer of the Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps of Lowell where his daughter was a member.

Often referred to as the comedian in the room, Richard will also be remembered for his kind and friendly nature, his patriotism, and his passion for the NY Jets. Richard’s loss leaves a hole in the hearts of all who love him.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Barbara (O’Connor) Sardynski with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage, his daughters Kimberly (Sardynski) MacInnis and her husband John of Wilmington, and Kristen (Sardynski) McGuire and her husband David of Dracut.
