Wilmington Police Detective Julie Pozzi Honored with Mentorship Award

Below is a press release from the Wilmington Police Department:

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Police Department is proud to announce that Detective Julie Pozzi has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Spirit of MAWLE Award in Mentorship, presented by the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement (MAWLE).

The award, which recognizes exceptional mentorship in the law enforcement profession, will be presented during MAWLE’s annual awards ceremony hosted by the Canton Police Department on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, MA.

This year’s Mentorship Award honors Detective Pozzi’s decades-long commitment to guiding and supporting the next generation of law enforcement officers. Nominated by her peers, she has been a powerful role model and advocate for women in policing throughout her career.

“For many years, Detective Pozzi served as the only woman officer in our department,” said Wilmington Police Chief Joseph Desmond. “Her experience and perseverance during that time gave her a unique perspective, one that she has selflessly shared with younger women entering our ranks. Through her guidance, encouragement, and example, she has helped shape a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone who wears the badge.”

Marie Cleary, President of MAWLE, emphasized why Detective Pozzi was selected for the award: “You were selected for this award because of your outstanding contributions to the field of law enforcement and the Wilmington Police Department. Your outstanding dedication, hard work and contribution are an inspiration for others, especially women who are encouraged to achieve their own milestones by your example.”

Detective Pozzi’s leadership, mentorship, and resilience have left a lasting impact not only within the Wilmington Police Department but throughout the Massachusetts law enforcement community.

“We are proud to serve alongside Detective Pozzi and even prouder to celebrate her accomplishments,” Chief Desmond added. “This recognition is well-deserved and long overdue.”

The Wilmington Police Department invites colleagues, community members, and friends to join in congratulating Detective Pozzi on this exceptional achievement.
