OBITUARY: Joan A. (Groves) Corsaro, 83

WILMINGTON, MA — Joan Alexandria (Groves) Corsaro, age 83, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2025.

Joan was born in Melrose, MA on November 14, 1941. She was the oldest child and only daughter of Alexander “Sandy” Groves (1918 – 1983) and Winifred A. (Grant) Groves (1914 – 1974).

Joan grew up in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1959. After graduating high school, Joan worked several years for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company.

She married her husband, Charles, on July 12, 1969, and they moved to Wilmington in December 1972. While raising their only child, Joan worked as a substitute in the Wilmington Public School cafeterias which allowed her to have the same schedule as her daughter who was in elementary school at the time. She then worked for the former Commerical Bank and Trust Company before becoming the parish secretary at St. Thomas of Villanova where she faithfully attended Mass and was active in the Women’s Club.

Joan is predeceased by her husband, (Carmelo) Charles Corsaro, to whom she was married for 51 ½ years. Joan was Charlie’s primary caregiver before he passed away from complications related to MS on January 10, 2024.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Winifred (Winnie) Polomoscanik and her husband, Steven, of Methuen. She was the loving and proud grandmother to her two grandchildren, Luke and Emily Polomoscanik.

Joan is also predeceased by her youngest brother, Kenneth B. Groves who passed away on March 7, 2023.

Joan is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Groves, her brother, USMC MSgt. Lawrence Groves and his wife, Maureen. She was the aunt to three nieces and two nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, May 17th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 16th at 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
