Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Anthony “Tony” Scoppettuolo, of Wilmington, formerly of Revere and East Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 6th at the age of 96.
Tony lived a life rich in love, laughter, and connection. He was the life of the party—especially at weddings—often first on the dance floor and never shy about grabbing the mic to sing a favorite Italian song. He sang at all of his daughters’ weddings and many for his nieces and nephews, adding joy and unforgettable moments to every celebration. He loved games of all kinds—whether it was backyard baseball with his grandkids, bocce, or any competitive lawn game. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he was always quick with a joke or a warm greeting for anyone his kids or grandkids brought home.
Tony’s home was a hub of activity and comfort, lovingly referred to as “the country club.” His backyard oasis was always open to friends and family, with music playing and laughter filling the air. He took joy in welcoming everyone—whether for a quick visit or a long afternoon by the pool.
He grew up in East Boston and continued returning there every Sunday morning for years to spend time with his siblings, eat meatballs, and spread his signature cheer. A skilled, self taught craftsman, he was always ready to lend a hand with a house project, never showing up empty-handed and always leaving things better than he found them.
Tony worked for over 40 years at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington and was known for his strong work ethic, friendly demeanor, and warm smile. He had a natural ability to connect with people and took genuine interest in others, making him a cherished friend and neighbor. He was a devoted husband to the late Phyllis “Meena” Spinazzola for 65 years—a marriage grounded in deep love, sacrifice, and unwavering support. Together they built a family that brought them immense pride and joy.
Tony is survived by his beloved children: Karen Prochilo and her husband Thomas; Anthony M. Scoppettuolo; Trina Bertolino; Joy Kruppa and her husband Roger; Maria Scoppettuolo and her partner Ray Melcher; and Dion Scoppettuolo and his husband Leo Bechtold. He was a proud and loving Papa to Taryn Bertolino and her husband Matt Carlin, Janelle Green and her husband Brian, David Prochilo, Cara Prochilo, Damon Kruppa, and Mia Kruppa. He also adored his great-grandsons, Liam and Wyatt Green.
Tony is also survived by his dear sisters Josephine Scoppettuolo and her husband Leonard Nelson, and Julia Scoppettuolo and her husband Robert Claussen, along with many loving nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
Tony’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and joyful presence. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.
At the family’s request, a private service will be held.
Remembrances in Tony’s honor may be made to INspire Cafe (inspirecafe.org) and Northeast Arc (ne-arc.org).
