OBITUARY: Catherine A. “Katie” (Murphy) Schupak, 40

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Catherine A. (Murphy) Schupak, “Katie”, born on July 20, 1984, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 40 at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY on April 16, 2025. Although her death was unexpected, she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends as she passed.

Katie is survived by her husband: Shraga Schupak of Hauppauge, NY, her beloved daughter: Isabella, her mother and father: Michael and Christine Murphy of Wilmington, MA, her sister and brother-in- law: Colleen (Murphy) and Frederick Coughlin, and three cherished nieces: Molly, Nora and Caroline. Katie is also survived by countless extended family members, friends, and in-laws who love and miss her dearly.

Although Katie lived in New York for many years, she always considered Massachusetts her “home”. Katie was a member of the Wilmington High School class of 2002 in Wilmington, MA, and went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI. She was a dedicated and beloved educator and special educator for over 20 years working with children ranging from preschool all the way through middle school. She was known for her enthusiasm, patience, and bright smile by her students and co-workers.

Katie will be most remembered for being a dedicated mother and friend. Katie adored Isabella, and the two were inseparable. Katie was a girl scout leader for Isabella’s troop and would often be found volunteering and helping at events at Izzy’s school. Katie was busy but always found time to check in with friends and family and to help any person in need. She had a heart of gold, an infectious laugh, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, May 9th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Catholic Funeral Mass will take place in St. Dorothy’s Church, 11 Harnden St., Wilmington, on Saturday, May 10th at 10:30 a.m. Please go directly to church. A Celebration of Life will take place in New York at a later date.

Because Katie was known for being so colorful in life, her family requests that everyone wear their favorite color to her services to help honor her.

In lieu of flowers, Katie had requested that everyone make a donation to the charity of their choice. We also ask that everyone perform one small act of kindness, as Katie did every day of her life.
