State Senator Barry Finegold Appointed To Massachusetts Youth Sports Commission

Below is a press release from State Senator Barry Finegold’s Office. Finegold represents Wilmington in the State Senate.

BOSTON, MA — State Senator Barry R. Finegold has been appointed to the newly established Youth Sports Commission, created to study and improve youth sports in Massachusetts. The Commission will focus on increasing access, safety, and affordability for children and families involved in youth sports. For more info on Bill S.1374, look here: Youth Sports Commission

“I’m grateful to have been named to the Youth Sports Working Group by Senate President Spilka,” said Finegold. “The well-being of high school and college athletes is protected by the MIAA and NCAA, but there’s nothing in place for younger students. This working group aims to ensure affordability and reasonable guardrails so that kids and families have a positive experience with youth sports.”

Senator Finegold will be an outstanding member of the Youth Sports Commission,” said Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland). “For years he has been a champion for making youth sports safe and healthy places to exercise and build community, and for reducing the risk of injury that is growing for even our youngest athletes. His leadership, combined with his real-world coaching experience, is what drove the Legislature to create this commission. I look forward to seeing the Senator’s great work continue, and hearing recommendations on how the Legislature can move forward.”
