OBITUARY: Douglas D. Moeckel, 70

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Doug Moeckel passed away very peacefully on April 22, 2025 after a brief illness while surrounded by his loving family. Doug was 70 years old and a resident of Wilmington, Massachusetts for 43 years.

Doug was raised and schooled in Lancaster, Massachusetts with his very caring parents Loraine and Douglas Moeckel (both predeceased).

He was an amazing husband to his love Dannelle for 35 years and was a devoted father to his precious sons Matthew (wife Sasha, son Jaiden) and Wesley. He is also survived by the boys’ mother Andrea Tymeson and her son Jesse. Doug was the proud grandfather to Amelia and Carina, and the best step-Dad to David Spear, Laura Spear, Mark Spear, and Kerry Wilson with their combined total of 9 wonderful children: Jessica, Rachel, Jacob, Bryanna, Davina, Brookelyn, Samantha, Brayden, and Alex.

Doug enjoyed summer vacations with all the kids at the “Hurley’s Cottage” fishing and water skiing on Lake Todd. They shared endless days dirt biking, bike riding around town, weekend drives to the ocean, picnics at the parks, and two Disney World vacations! He was an avid fan of the Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots; and he was old enough to be a loyal rooter through the great years and the many, many less great years. Doug’s best days could be found driving the New England coast with Dannelle and sampling the best seafood restaurants that they could find.

Doug was a proud graduate from South Lancaster Academy with the Class of 1973. As a youngster, Doug worked in his parents’ Lancaster bakery. He then served 25 years in Security at New England Memorial Hospital, Stoneham, Massachusetts, and then 12 years in Emergency Services at Brooksby Village Retirement Community in Peabody, Massachusetts. Doug retired in 2022.

Doug also leaves his cherished siblings, brother Carl Moeckel (wife Libby), sister Marcia Montgomery (predeceased husband Robert), sister Karen Peckham (spouse Pastor Ernie), and many much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be private.

The family would be honored by any memorial donations to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International (ADRA).
