Greetings Wilmington Residents!
My name is David Crowley. My wife and I moved to Wilmington 26 years ago and have proudly raised our family here. I wanted to take a moment to encourage everyone to vote for a friend of mine, Steve Hunt, in our upcoming Wilmington Select Board election this Saturday.
Steve, as you may know, is a lifelong resident of Wilmington, who also raised his family here, served 20 years with our DPW, served 10 years as AFSCME Union President, worked hard to represent and support our town’s dedicated employees, and, even in retirement, Steve remains dedicated to pursuing what’s best for our community.
Steve believes in balancing our towns housing development efforts with keeping Wilmington accessible to first-time home buyers, seniors, and families who want to stay in our community they love. He believes strong schools and youth programs are vital for our town and is committed to supporting our educators, investing in needed resources, and making Wilmington a place where every child can thrive.
Steve is a strong voice for continued investment in our town’s safety, well-maintained roads, and reliable town services. He’ll pursue infrastructure solutions that keep pace with our towns growth and ease traffic congestion. He’ll advocate for smart development that respects and preserves our community character.
Steve also believes in supporting initiatives that help our small, local businesses thrive, strengthen our local economy, and keep Wilmington vibrant and welcoming. He’ll work to preserve and enhance our shared public parks, fields and open spaces, ensuring that our Wilmington families continue to have places to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors. He’ll also advocate for responsible spending, transparency, and smart budgeting that respects taxpayers while also keeping our town moving forward.
Steve has also dedicated years as a girls ice hockey coach with various local programs, schools, and teams. He’s coached many Wilmington and surrounding community’s youth and high school players, including our daughter. I believe that many of the skills and attributes Steve has demonstrated as a coach will translate extremely well to a position serving Wilmington with the select board.
Steve as a coach doesn’t act impulsively, but intentionally, and thoughtfully. He always seeks to first understand what the most important challenges, problems, or objectives are. He forges trusted relationships with those around him and then determines best ways to work with, or communicate with others (in the coaching example that means players, coaches, parents, and administrators). He is decisive, action oriented, and helps others achieve their best outcomes. In his interactions he is often, as the saying goes, the rising tide that helps raise all boats.
I’ve witnessed this with virtually every team Steve has been a part of. They’ve all improved. Some significantly and dramatically. The players he coaches grow, improve, and gain confidence. Multiple teams that he’s coached over the years have advanced farther than they had prior to his arrival. Some won championships. Players he’s coached, year over year, reach out to him and ask him to write recommendation letters, provide advice on potential careers, trades to consider, schools to attend, and degrees to pursue beyond high school. Additionally, I know of multiple, former players who remain in touch with him to this day, asking his advice and keeping him updated on their progress as adults.
Steve, in short, is a winner and impact player. I have no doubt these skills and attributes will serve him well getting things done for our town.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the polls on Saturday, April 26th!
Sincerely,
David Crowley
