OBITUARY: Stephen E. Flynn, 86

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

Stephen E. Flynn, fondly known as “Stevie” or “Steve” to his family and friends, and a long-time former resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 86 years old.

Born on February 24, 1939, in Cambridge, MA, Steve was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Mary (Doherty) Flynn. He was raised and educated in Cambridge and graduated from St. John’s High School. After graduation, Steve and his family moved to Concord, MA, where he lived until settling in Wilmington over 40 years ago.

Steve spent many years working for the U.S. Post Office in Framingham, holding various positions throughout his career.

In his free time, Steve loved to travel with his wife, Donna. They enjoyed taking annual vacations with their family to Old Orchard Beach and Cape Cod. His favorite adventures included visiting national parks across the United States and Canada, especially Prince Edward Island, and visiting historical sites to foster their love of history. Steve also had a deep love for music and performance—he was always ready to take the spotlight. Whether he was singing in church choirs, performing in variety shows, or entertaining nursing home residents, Steve brought joy to every stage. One of his proudest moments was winning first place in a cruise ship karaoke contest with his rendition of The Monster Mash.

Above all, Steve cherished his family. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always at the heart of family gatherings. He was known for his playful sense of humor and his lovable role as Santa Claus to hundreds of children over the years.

Steve brought light and laughter wherever he went. His generous spirit, sense of fun, and ability to make others smile left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His memory will live on through the joy he shared and the many lives he touched.

Steve was the beloved husband of Donna McLaughlin Flynn; cherished stepfather of Denise McLaughlin Mitchell of Melrose, MA, and the late John McLaughlin, and his wife Darlene McLaughlin of New Hampshire. Loving “Papa” to Nicole, Joseph, Jessica, Kalina, Charlie, and Chloe, and great-grandfather to Mason, Rose, Everett, Donnie, and Zoey. He was the dear brother of Mary Muscato and her husband Joseph, and a special uncle to his nieces Sheila and Amy, and their children, all of Watertown. And of course, we can’t leave out his best friend, LadyLu, who sat by his side watching black and white movies with the air conditioning on!

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, April 22nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. All are welcome to gather at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 23rd at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
