Dear Editor,
I am writing in support of Kevin Caira, who is running for re-election for Wilmington Selectman. I have known Kevin and his family for many years and feel that he has done a fantastic job over the last nine years. He takes his position on the Board of Selectman extremely serious and is an honest, fair, and hard-working individual. He is very transparent and extremely thorough when reviewing and analyzing issues that come before him on the board. Some may misinterpret his easy-going nature the wrong way, but he is a strong leader who does not make rash decisions and does not jump to unfounded conclusions. He thinks things through, researches the issues and sticks to the facts. He believes in allowing issues to work through the process that Wilmington’s by-laws have laid out and does not allow a few loud voices to sway the board away from doing the right thing for the entire town, not just a few people with their own special interest. He always puts what’s best for Wilmington first even if sometimes it is not the most popular position to take.
I have continued to work hand in hand with Kevin through my involvement with the Wilmington Sons and Daughters of Italy, where Kevin is the Chairman of the Roncalli Board of Directors, and I am an elected Trustee. Kevin has worked tirelessly to organize and run fundraising events such as our Comedy Night and Town Wide Yard Sale which raises money not only for the Wilmington Sons and Daughters of Italy charities but also Wilmington Band Parents Scholarships. Kevin has also recently been elected as the 2nd National Vice President of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, a position that shows the esteem, honor and trustworthiness in which he is held across the country. Working together with Kevin on these charitable endeavors and many others, I can attest to his commitment and his compassion to help others. His leadership ability and organizational skills have led these fundraisers to huge successes. Kevin’s volunteer work also extends beyond the Sons and Daughters of Italy. He has served the Town as Vice Chairman of the Yentile Recreational Development Committee. This 20 acres of open space, 10 acres of which includes both passive and active recreation for our town residents, is a tremendous asset to our town. Kevin cares about our towns’ residents and their need for recreational facilities such as Yentile Park.
Kevin has the knowledge on how both state and municipal government work. He worked in state government as an administrator for the State Retirement System for over 20 years and has just recently retired as the Retirement Administrator for the City of Amesbury. Kevin is fiscally responsible and continues to work to ensure that our town has a high bond rating so that the town can do important projects without overpaying to get the job done right! He works hand in hand with the Town Manager and his department heads to ensure town services are delivered at the level that we all deserve.
As always, this year’s election is important for you and our community. I am confident that his experience, compassion and leadership in government service, both state and municipal, and his many years of volunteerism exemplify what we need in our next Selectman.
I would like to ask the residents of Wilmington to please join me and my family and cast one of your two votes to re-elect Kevin Caira for Wilmington Selectman on Election Day – Saturday, April 26th!
Sincerely,
Patricia Romano
