LETTER: School Committee Member Jay Samaha Endorses Jesse Fennelly For School Committee

Dear Editor,

I am writing to offer my endorsement of Jesse Fennelly for reelection to the Wilmington School Committee. I believe that Mr. Fennelly has the right combination of experience and leadership to continue to move the Wilmington Public Schools in the right direction. This is a crucial time for our schools as we are currently facing the hiring and onboarding of an Interim Superintendent of Schools and important milestones in realizing the new elementary school in town.

Mr. Fennelly and I were both elected to the Committee in 2019 and he has been a consistent and reliable colleague for the past 6 years. I have seen how he carefully considers each issue and listens both attentively and critically to each member. In the most recent two years he has taken on additional leadership responsibilities with the committee as both the Vice-Chair and now as the current Chair of the School Committee. Mr. Fennelly offers important insights and works in a cooperative fashion that allows our district to move forward.

The work of the School Committee goes well beyond the twice monthly meetings that many in town are familiar with. Mr. Fennelly has served on numerous subcommittees and projects in town. Frequently these projects involve working closely with other elected board members in town or helping to negotiate fair and equitable contracts with our teachers, paraprofessionals, and other bargaining units. He has shown a high level of skill in working collaboratively. This is the type of school committee member Wilmington currently has in Mr. Fennelly and the type that Wilmington Public Schools needs and deserves for its continued bright future.

I hope you join me in voting for Jesse Fennelly for School Committee. I know that Mr. Fennelly will continue to lead in these uncertain times. I have a deep level of trust in him and I know that he is the right choice for the families, children, staff, and all those who care about the Wilmington Public Schools.
