Wilmington Police Department Announces Promotion Of Shane Foley To Sergeant

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Shane Foley to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 7, 2025.

Sergeant Foley has served with the Wilmington Police Department since May 2017. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated exceptional commitment to public safety and has been a valuable asset to the department. In addition to his patrol duties, he has served as a training officer, where he played a key role in mentoring and preparing new officers for duty.

Sergeant Foley has been an active member of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT team, where he is currently assigned as a sniper. His expertise extends to the Massachusetts Police Training Committee, where he serves as an instructor, further contributing to the professional development of officers across the state.

Sergeant Foley is also a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he attained the rank of sergeant, bringing valuable experience and leadership skills to his law enforcement career.

Chief Joseph Desmond expressed his confidence in Sergeant Foley’s abilities, stating: “Sergeant Foley has been an outstanding officer and leader within our department. His dedication to training and tactical expertise, coupled with his commitment to serving the Wilmington community, make him well-suited for this new role. I wish him the best of luck as he takes on these new responsibilities.”
