OBITUARY: Robert F. Youngclaus, 82

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Robert F. “Bob” Youngclaus, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2025.

Bob was born on February 18, 1942, in Boston, MA; he was the son of the late Richard and Marian (Bradley) Youngclaus. Bob was raised and educated on River St. in the tight-knit community of Cambridge, MA.

Following graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 28, 1959. He proudly served in the military for three years before being honorably discharged on September 27, 1962. With his trademark humor, he spoke frequently of his deployments in Korea and Alaska.

Bob met the love of his life, Christine Youngclaus, in Cambridge in 1971. The two married soon thereafter. They settled in Medford, then Wilmington, where they raised their two boys, Jason and Jeffrey. Bob was a revered sports coach in the Wilmington Community; volunteering his time for basketball, soccer, football and baseball. He was a fixture at Rotary Park, tutoring young ballplayers on the mechanics of a good swing.

In his professional career, Bob worked as an Auto Theft Detective with the Massachusetts State Police. He worked with great success on a number of high profile cases and was frequently featured on local television for his diligence in these matters.

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Christine C. (Chester) Youngclaus, devoted father of Jason C. Youngclaus and Jeffrey R. Youngclaus of Haverhill, dear brother of David Youngclaus. Bob is survived by nephews and nieces too many to name: Michael, Mark, David, Katie, Ian, Robbie, and all of those he coached along the way.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, on Tuesday, February 11th at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne, MA on Wednesday, February 12th at 12:45 p.m.
