WILMINGTON, MA — Michael A. Stetson, age 81, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2025, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.
Mike was born on July 22, 1943, in Brattleboro, VT; he was the dear son of the late Homer Allen and Dorothy Stetson. As a young boy, Mike and his family moved to Lynn, MA, but always returned to Vermont to visit his grandparents, family and friends. Mike graduated from Lynn High School? With the Class of 1961.
Following graduation from High School, Mike, enlisted in the United States Army on June 26, 1961, during the Vietnam War. Mike served overseas in Germany and Vietnam with the Army Intelligence Unit and was involved in guarding Army Officers. Mike received the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter Metal during his service and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1964, returning home to his family in Lynn. Mike went on to further serve the country with the Army Reserves until June of 1967.
Mike was very intelligent and had a great work ethic; he took an entry position with the Telephone Company when he returned home from the Army. Throughout the years, Mike saw many changes in communications and learned quickly the new phone systems that were being created. Mike worked for the company as a systems installer for many years before retiring in August of 1998. Mike was a great employee; dependable, hardworking, and smart; he made many life-long friends with his coworkers and was a great asset to the company.
Mike married his “sweetheart” Judith Maddison on August 15, 1969; they moved to Wilmington in October of 1974 and had a great neighborhood of families that became good friends. Mike and Judy shared many great times together with family and friends throughout the years; they had a lot of fun and made some wonderful memories.
Mike and Judy loved to travel and enjoyed life; they went on many trips to Bermuda, Hawaii, Arizona and Vegas just to try their luck. They took many cruises to different ports of call; always enjoying the different cultures and meeting new people. Mike and Judy had a great time wherever they went and made sure those around them had a lot of fun as well.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed the “great outdoors”; he like to hunt, fish, and go camping. Mike liked to be in the mountains or around the lakes; he enjoyed nature and all of its beauty. Mike also loved to be outside at his home puttering in the yard and tending to his gardens; he had quite a “green thumb”.
Mike will be remembered as a great guy, a wonderful husband, a good neighbor, and a true friend to many. He will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Judith E. (Maddison) Stetson, dear brother of the late Edward Stetson, the late Letitia Dupler, and the late Carla Stetson. Mike is further survived by many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Wednesday, February 12th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. with a Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
