WILMINGTON, MA — Ronald Grasso, age 77, of Wilmington, native of Revere, died peacefully on January 31 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was the beloved husband of Diane (Monzione) of 52 years; devoted father of Jennifer Mezquita and her husband, Santiago, of Methuen; and Peter and his wife, Alejandra, of Andover; loving “Papa” of Javier, Luca, Catalina and Nicolas. He also leaves behind his loving brother Victor and his wife Linda, of Marblehead; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Amedeo Umberto Vittorio (“Vic”) Grasso and Mary Josephine (Caserta) Grasso and three brothers, Francis, Robert and Richard.
Ron cherished his family above all else and had a passionate lifetime love of camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He enjoyed his spare time gardening, golfing, cooking and fishing with his grandsons. He participated in Wilmington’s sports leagues as a coach for years as his son Peter grew up.
He entered the workforce working as a computer operator at John Hancock Insurance Co. for many years and later advanced as a computer programmer at Avco -Everett Research Laboratory. Towards retirement Ron worked at Northeastern Fence Co. in Saugus. He had a quick wit about him and was always surrounded by friends, old and new.
Former Grand Knight and long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus Council #179 in Revere, and more currently, member of the Elks Lodge in Billerica and the Moose Lodge in North Reading.
Friends and family are welcome to visiting hours on Monday, February 10 from 9:00 to 11:00 at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue (Rte. 62), Wilmington, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church at 11:30a.m., 11 Harden Street (Rte. 38), Wilmington. Interment will be private at a later date.
