WILMINGTON, MA — Eugenia M. Kane (McLaughlin), fondly known as Jean to her family and friends, of Wilmington, formerly a long-time resident of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 25, 2025.
Jean was born in Boston, MA, on June 14, 1932; she was raised and educated in Charlestown until she moved to Somerville with her family when she was a teenager. Jean went on to graduate from St. Clement’s High School in Somerville where she made many friends.
Following High School, Jean went to work for the John Hancock Insurance Company where she met “her sweetheart” Michael J. Kane II; the couple married in 1958 and moved to their home in Woburn in 1961 where they raised their family. Jean was a very devoted and loving wife and mother; she was a great source of encouragement to her family and was their biggest fan. Jean’s world became so much brighter when her grandchildren arrived; she cherished the time she spent with them, they brought her so much joy. Jean’s home was always open to family and friends; she and Mike made many wonderful memories together before his passing in 2003.
In her spare time, Jean enjoyed boating with her husband Mike; they belonged to the Mystic Wellington Yacht Club where they made many friends and had countless fond memories of their time on the water.
Jean had a creative side; she loved to crochet and do ceramics. Jean made many gifts and decorations for family and friends throughout the years. Jean also enjoyed testing her brain with her countless word search puzzles.
Jean will be fondly remembered as a sweet, kind, and loving lady. She was very devoted to her family and friends and will forever be loved and missed by all.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Michael J. Kane II, devoted mother of Michael J. Kane III and his wife Ann of Wilmington, James Kane of Woburn, and Marie Hill and her husband Robert of Stanford, ME. She was the loving “Nana” of Robert Hill, Chrissy Hill and Kimberly Kane. Cherished daughter of the late Mary A. (Monagle) McLaughlin, dear sister of Joan Farren of Medford, the late James McLaughlin, and the late Mary Ellis. Jean is further survived by her nieces and nephews.
At Jean’s request private family services will be held.
