Gerald was born on December 11, 1939, in Somerville; he was the dear son of the late Generoso and Mary (Ciampa) D’Alelio. Gerald grew up in Somerville, as part of a large and loving family. After high school Gerald served in the United States Army as a SP4E-4 from February of 1962 until February of 1965 when he was honorably discharged and transferred to the U. S. Army Reserves. Gerald worked in several departments throughout the city including grounds and maintenance as well as the school department. Gerald made many good friends with his co-workers while working for the city before he retired after many years of dedicated service.

Gerald was a quiet and humble man who was very laid back in his demeanor. When not working he could be found tinkering around the house and yard in Wilmington, or “hanging out” with his faithful friend “Nebo”, a beloved family dog.
