OBITUARY: Joan (Cunningham) O’Hearn, 86

WILMINGTON, MA — Joan (Cunningham) O’Hearn, age 86, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on November 29, 2024.

Born at home on April 14, 1938, in Braintree, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Charles J. and Mary (O’Leary) Cunningham and the youngest of three. She was recently pre-deceased by her brother, Richard (Dick) Cunningham earlier this year and her sister Barbara Travers in 2021. A graduate of Archbishop Williams High School and Boston University, Joan had a short nursing career at New England Medical Center where she met her husband, the late Arthur (Tom) O’Hearn before raising a blended family of eight children in Medford and later in Wilmington.

Joan was a very supportive mom, spending many, many hours at various hockey rinks, gyms and school functions. She was an avid painter of landscapes and was very fortunate to be able to travel later in life with her sister, Barbara throughout Europe and North America. She was also an active patron of the Wilmington Library, where she enjoyed romance and mystery novels.

Joan leaves behind her four step-children Mary Lou Wilkins & her husband Jack of Lakeland, FL, Susan Scurini & her late husband Dom of Hudson, Anne Kneeland & her husband Eddie of Malden, Paul O’Hearn & his wife Anne of Plymouth; and four children Francis O’Hearn & his wife Kathleen of Bethesda, MD, Christine Morrison & her husband Wayne of Groton, Stephen O’Hearn & his wife Darlene of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kevin O’Hearn & his wife Colleen of Wilmington. She was also Grandma to an ever growing number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, December 6th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Home Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph.
