METHUEN, MA — On Friday, December 6, 2024, the third annual Michael P. Ippolito Memorial Fundraising Event will take place at Methuen High School, with seven high school jamboree-style hockey teams playing four games.
The teams include on the boys side, Methuen, Tewksbury, Wilmington and Bedford, and on the girls side, Methuen/Tewksbury, Shawsheen Tech/Bedford and Wilmington/Stoneham.
The first game will feature the Tewksbury Boys against Bedford starting at 6 p.m. That will be followed by the Wilmington/Stoneham Girls playing Shawsheen/Bedford at 7 p.m. and then Tewksbury/Methuen at 8 p.m. The last game of the night will feature the Wilmington Boys skating against the Methuen Boys at 9 p.m.
Mike Ippolito was a popular sportswriter for the Wilmington and Tewksbury Town Crier. He spent 20 years at the paper, which included covering the Methuen/Tewksbury girls’ hockey and swim team. He passed away in September of 2022. He is survived by his wife Lisa and their two boys Michael and Adam.
The money raised from this event will be used for six scholarships divided up to two senior student-athletes from each Tewksbury High, Wilmington High and Shawsheen Tech, in memory of Ippolito.
There will be no admission fee for the hockey event. There will be many gift baskets to be raffled off and several 50-50 raffles with 100% of the proceeds going to the Michael P. Ippolito Memorial Fund.
