WILMINGTON, MA — Charlotte Ann Guthrie, age 76, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away on November 13, 2024, at the Winchester Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Charlotte was born on May 4, 1948, in Cambridge, MA; she was the cherished only child to the late Charles and Helen (Theriault) Guthrie. Charlotte was raised and educated in Wilmington where she made many life-long friends. Charlotte graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1966, and she loved to organize their Class Reunions throughout the years.

As a young girl, Charlotte, started a little job at Anderson’s Bakery in North Wilmington where she learned how to make desserts, bake cakes, and customer service skills. Charlotte then took a job at Pool’s Bakery in Wilmington Center and her career took off from there. Charlotte was a self-taught cake decorator; she had endless talent and an incredible knack for creating beautiful cakes for all occasions. Charlotte soon opened her own bakery, “Cakes by Charlie”, word spread quickly throughout town and her journey as an excellent baker and decorator began. Throughout the years, Charlotte made countless weddings, birthdays, christening, and special occasion cakes for family, friends, or complete strangers. She made every cake special and unique for the occasion, that along with her friendly and endearing personality made her business quite a success for many years. When not decorating herself, Charlotte would share her skills and teach classes on decorating cakes to her many students through the years.

Charlotte also spent many years working at the Sweetheart Plastics Company in Wilmington where she started in the warehouse packing boxes and through much hard work and willingness to learn she made her way through every department until she took a position as the secretary to the executive vice president of the company. Charlotte was very proud of her accomplishments, and she made many dear friends along the way.

Charlotte was a woman of great faith and an active communicant at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington for many years. Charlotte was partial to the Blessed Mother and enjoyed praying the daily rosary.

In her spare time, Charlotte loved to watch old fashioned Westerns, listen to Perry Como, or head out to dinner with family and friends.

Charlotte was extremely intelligent and could converse on many subjects; she was well read and could often be found in her favorite chair with a good book in her hand.

Charlotte’s family was the center of her universe; she was a wonderful daughter to her parents, and a devoted mother to her son Charlie who was the apple of her eye. Charlotte enjoyed her role as Grammy to Jennifer and Crystal, as well as her son’s goddaughter Sandra, and had a special bond with her daughter-in-law Shirley who she worked with for several years.

Charlotte will be fondly remembered as a wonderful lady; she was very kind and sociable towards everyone she met. Charlotte loved people! She also enjoyed spending weekends with Charlie whether it was out to breakfast on Saturday mornings followed by shopping or out to dinner with the grandkids and her best friends; she always had a great time.

When Charlotte was diagnosed with cancer, she faced it head on and she fought the good fight, never losing faith. Charlotte was an inspiration to so many people; she will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Charlotte is survived by her loving son Charles “Charlie” Guthrie of North Billerica, she was a special “Grammy” to Jennifer Randall and Crystal Cunningham, beloved mother-in-law to Shirley Guthrie.
