WILMINGTON, MA — Ellie M. Martin (Parker), age 94, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly on October 27, 2024, at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington.
Ellie was born on March 20, 1930, in Haverhill, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Elmer and Jesse (Cook) Parker. Ellie was raised and educated in Haverhill.
Ellie married the “love of her life” Earl Martin on September 22, 1956; the couple shared over 50 years together and made many wonderful memories with family and friends. As the proud wife of a Coast Guard Officer, Ellie travelled all over the World with Earl as he was called to duty. The couple enjoyed living in Hawaii and the U. S. Virgin Islands as well as many other places in an around the United States all while raising two wonderful children.
Ellie’s family was always her priority; she was a very devoted and loving wife and mother. Ellie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; she was always cooking and looked forward to having a crowd around her dinner table. Ellie was a source of support and comfort for her children; she was always there to cheer them on and encourage them to do their best. In later years, Ellie, was blessed to become “Nina” to her grandchildren Connor and Kalie; they were the “apple of her eye”, and she treasured the time they spent together. Ellie was so proud of her family and all of their accomplishments.
Ellie and Earl settled in Wilmington in 1973 where they soon became very active in their community and very friendly with their fellow neighbors. Ellie was a meticulous homemaker whose door was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed working out in her yard and tending to her flower gardens.
Ellie was a woman of great faith and an active communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church for many years. Ellie loved being part of the Ladies Sodality at the Church where she continuously volunteered her time and talents for various fund raisers and charity events. She looked forward to attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, and socializing with her “church family”.
In her spare time, Ellie could be found watching one of her favorite Boston Sports teams cheering on the Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics, or Tom Brady and the Patriots during their Dynasty years. In the last several years, Ellie enjoyed watching College Football and following her granddaughter Kalie’s alma mater Clemson Tiger’s.
Ellie will be fondly remembered as a beautiful lady inside and out; she had an endearing personality, a hearty laugh, and a beaming smile. Ellie was so kind and thoughtful to her family and friends; her memory will forever live on in their hearts.
Ellie was the beloved wife of the late Earl E. Martin, devoted mother of Patricia Hopkins of Simpsonville, SC and Michael Martin of Wilmington, MA. Loving “Nina” of Connor Hopkins and wife Jessica and Dr. Kalie Hopkins. Dear sister of the late Edith McGonagle and Lucinda Lauder, sister-in-law of the late Grace Grover and Leeland Martin. Ellie is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as her special friend Jeff Linehan of Wilmington.
Visiting Hours for Ellie will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Sunday, November 3rd from 4:00-6:00 p.m. All are welcome to gather at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 4th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellie’s memory may be made to the Parish of the Transfiguration, c/o Parish Rectory, 11 Harnden St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
