OBITUARY: Catherine I. McMahon, 85

WEST BRIDGEWATER, MA — Catherine I (Nolan) McMahon, 85, of West Bridgewater passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Paul F. “Smokey” McMahon.

Born in Wilmington, Massachusetts on March 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Louis B. and Catherine (Doucette) Nolan. She was a graduate of Tewksbury High School.

Catherine worked at the Federal Reserve Bank where she met the love of her life Paul. She then stayed at home to raise her four children. Once they were grown she worked as a school secretary at the West Bridgewater Public Schools for over 20 years.

She enjoyed gardening, her home, camping, and traveling the country in an RV with Smokey. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her infectious laugh brought everyone joy and was contagious.

Catherine is survived by siblings Paul and wife Marilyn Nolan of Tewskbury, Mary Fluery of Tewksbury, Charlotte and husband Philip Hureau of Lowell and James and wife Lou Nolan of Arkansas, and pre deceased by the late Dorothy and husband Michael Riddle of Wilmington, and Mary’s husband Andrew Fluery. She is survived by sister in law’s Patricia (McMahon) Currie and Judy (Metta) McMahon, and pre deceased by the late John and Gloria McMahon, Harry and Mary Baker, Ann O’Brien, Frederick McMahon, Peter McMahon, James McMahon, Rita and Al Lyman, and Joseph McMahon.

Catherine is survived by her loving children Stephen McMahon of St. Petersburg, FL, Daniel and Kara (Conceison) McMahon of Easton, Colleen (McMahon) and Kevin Kelley of Falmouth (formerly of West Bridgewater), Brian McMahon of Fairhaven; her grandchildren Elizabeth (McMahon) and Nick Carchia, Meaghan (McMahon) and Ryan Gelinski, Christopher and Meghan (Dawley) McMahon, Amanda Kelley, Michelle (McMahon) and Adolfo “Luis” Rueda, and Jay Fernandes. Catherine was predeceased by her grandson Keith McMahon. She had 6 great grandchildren Camden and Aveline Carchia, Charlotte Gelinski, Connor and Parker McMahon and Jessie Fernandes. They all affectionately called her “GiGi”

Funeral services will be private. She will be laid to rest at Bourne National Cemetery alongside her husband.
