OBITUARY: Sybil A. (Stone) Dalton, 85

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Sybil A. Dalton (Stone), age 85, of Maynard, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on October 14, 2024.

Sybil was born on June 18, 1939, in Cambridge, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Eric and Rita (Rooney) Stone. Sybil was raised and educated in Cambridge, MA, and was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.

Sybil married and moved to Wilmington where she raised three beautiful daughters, Janine, Allison and Tracy. Sybil worked part time devoting herself to raising her family until tragedy struck and she jumped into the role as the sole provider for her family. Sybil took an entry level position and through much hard work and willingness made her way up the ladder as manager then retired as director of human resources. Sybil took pride in being a “self made” woman and she always encouraged her daughters to work hard and be the best they can be.

Family was always Sybil’s priority; she loved to spend time with “her girls” whenever she could. Sybil enjoyed heading up North to the family cottage in Northwood, New Hampshire, where her door was always open and everyone was welcomed to enjoy the sun and fun. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. Sybil loved to have the family up at the cottage where they built memories including going to the Deerfield Fair. Sybil’s family adventures were not complete without their holiday rides to see the Christmas lights, family trips to New York, or yard sale hunts with her sister Christine; there was always lots of fun and laughs no matter what they were doing. Sybil was also an amazing cook who loved to have family and friends around her dinner table.

Sybil will be fondly remembered as a wonderful woman who was devoted to her family, friends, and Elvis Presley. Sybil would help anyone in need, she had the biggest heart and loved everyone; she will forever be missed.

Sybil was the devoted mother of Janine Hartwell of Acton, Allison White and her partner Jimmy Donovan of Medford, and Tracy McCue and her husband David of Wilmington. She was the most loving “Gram” of Brenna Taylor, Colin Cleary, Chance Hartwell, Tierney McCue, Jake Hartwell and Riley McCue, as well as “Gigi” to her great-grandchildren Briella, Pierce, and Carter. She was the dear sister of Jean Butkis, Jackelen Oliveto, Lesley Stone, George Stone, Christine Goulding, Rita Albright and Raymond Stone. Sybil is also survived by her many cherished nieces and nephews. Sybil was pre-deceased by her husband Jess Walsh and loved his children Christine, Debbie, Patty, Jackie, Jessica, Jesse, Verna-lee, Stacey, and Rob, as well as his grandchildren as her own.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Sunday, October 20th from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. followed by a Service to Celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. also at Nichols Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sybil’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
