Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — George D. Waldman, Jr. died peacefully on October 10, 2024. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1932 and was raised for many years in West Hartford. George’s parents were George Sr. and Lucy Graham Waldman. He lost his father when he was eleven years old. His mother inherited a tiny, very charming fountain pen shop on Pearl St in Hartford. She continued to run the pen shop for years in the era before ball point pens.
While studying for his undergraduate degree from Trinity College, he was awarded a Phi Gamma Delta prize in mathematics. He received his PhD from Brown University in 1959.
He and his mother later moved to Winchester and then Reading, MA where he spent most of his life.
He became an aeronautical engineer/mathematician and worked for Avco Systems in Wilmington, MA. He authored many technical articles published by the AIAA. His work included high-level projects such as the calculations used for manned spacecraft to reenter the earth’s atmosphere.
George was a true gentleman who enjoyed music, and hiking. He studied piano as a youngster and often reminisced about his 3 cousins who lived close by him in West Hartford.
His final years were spent at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA.
A service to honor George’s life will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00 AM and will conclude with a burial in Charles Lawn Cemetery, Reading, MA. Friends are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
