REMINDER: Collection Fees For White Goods, TV & Computer Monitors & Mattresses Have Increased By $15 Beginning October 15

Below is an announcement from the latest Town Topics newsletter:

WILMINGTON, MA — At the June 24, 2024 and July 15, 2024 Select Board meetings, a proposal to increase the cost of recycling White Goods (bulk metal), CRTs (televisions and computer monitors) and mattresses/box springs was discussed and approved.

Wilmington’s existing $10 fee for White Goods and CRTs had gone unchanged since 2006 in an effort to help control recycling costs for residents. Unfortunately, since area communities have increased their fees, our records indicate a greater than 100% increase in white goods volumes in the last ten years (while volumes in other towns have dropped). This data suggests Wilmington is likely subsidizing the costs of recycling items from out of town, which risks costly change orders to the current recycling contract and increased disposal fees which are ultimately borne by Wilmington taxpayers.

In order to help mitigate volumes and help control recycling costs, the fee to recycle these items will be increasing from $10 to $25.

Please note that as of October 15, 2024, residents will contact Casella Waste directly at 1-800 CASELLA (1-800-227-3552) to purchase a pickup appointment for $25 per item. The last day residents will be allowed to order a $10 pickup sticker at Town Hall will be Friday October 11, 2024 by 4 p.m.

Residents will NO LONGER be required to go to Wilmington Town Hall to purchase a collection sticker after October 11th. (Please be aware that offices are closed Monday, October 14, 2024 in recognition of Columbus Day).
