Below is a press release from Wilmington High School:
WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington High School is proud to announce that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NSMC) has recognized three WHS seniors for their exceptional academic promise, based on their performance on the Fall 2023 PSAT/NMSQT.
Congratulations to Terry Ding, who was recognized as a Semifinalist in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program! 16,000 high scorers, representing less than 1% of the nation’s high school graduating seniors, will now have the opportunity to compete for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition.
Congratulations to Dean Ciampa and Derek Sun, who were recognized as Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program! About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation were announced, and they placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 280 business organizations, higher education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
