“I never explicitly state what I’m writing about” – author Lamar Giles writes YA thrillers, short stories, and graphic novels. His latest, Ruin Road, launches on September 17 and is his first effort to embrace the supernatural. Lamar is back for his seventh Book Stew episode and for a discussion of this novel, which has already ascended to the top of recommended reading lists for the fall. Lamar’s expertise and knowledge of his audience create a dynamic story of a high school football prospect, Cade, whose private school and inner city neighborhood constantly clash. Cade’s visit to a creepy pawnshop triggers a series of alarming events, one involving a New England Patriots Superbowl ring.
