OBITUARY: Alfred C. Lamothe, 92

WILMINGTON, MA — Alfred C. Lamothe, fondly known as “Al” to family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington.

Al was born in Somerville, MA, on April 5, 1932; he was the dear son of the late Henry L. and Blanche (Boudreau) Lamothe.  He was raised and educated in Somerville, and attended St. Clement Parochial Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Clement High School.

In May of 1952, Al, enlisted in the United States Air Force serving the country during the Korean War.  Al was honorably discharged in August of 1956 and returned home to his family.

Al went on to pursue his education at Northeastern University in Boston where he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry.  Al worked for many years as a chemical engineer and prior to retirement was the Quality Control Supervisor for the WR Grace Company in Cambridge.

Al married “his sweetheart” Jeanette (Souza) Lamothe over 63 years ago; the couple were parents to three wonderful children and made their home in Wilmington in 1983.  Al’s family was his priority; he enjoyed spending time with them, and was always there to give them love and support.

Al was a man of great faith and was willing to share that faith to help others.  When he moved to Wilmington, he became a very active member of St. Dorothy’s Church where he was always there to lend a hand at the many church functions and fundraisers.  Al volunteered his time and talents for church repairs, decorating, and keeping the church tidy.  He enjoyed being involved in the men’s bible study group; he was a eucharistic minister and helped with funerals for many years.  Al was awarded the Chevrus Medal for his dedication and devotion to St. Dorothy’s, his Catholic Faith, and his willingness to help others.

Al will be fondly remembered as humble guy who was kind towards everyone he met; he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Al was the beloved husband of Jeanette Lamothe, devoted father of Marc E. Lamothe of White Plains, NY, Amy M. Lamothe of Wilmington, and the late Brian E. Lamothe, “Grampa” of Henry Williams, brother of Janet Cantelli, and Yvonne Ross, the late Blanche McClellan, the late Eleanor Lust, the late Eugene Lamothe, the late Ronald Lamothe, the late Elaine Coyle, and the late Joanne Rochetti.  Al is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours on Thursday, August 29th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.  All are welcome to gather at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 30th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, at 10:30 a.m.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfred’s memory may be made to Parish of the Transfiguration, St. Dorothy’s Church, c/o Parish Rectory, 11 Harnden St., Wilmington, MA  01887.
