WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington resident Alex Flynn will represent the United States at the upcoming 2024 Paralympics in France.
According to a press release from New England Small College Athletic Conference, Flynn was selected for the US Paralympic Rowing Team and will compete in the PR3 Mixed Four with coxswain.
The PR3 category is for people with a verifiable disability who can still use the functionality of their legs, trunk, and arms. Flynn has a left clubfoot, which prevents him from bending the foot upward and has resulted in muscle atrophy to the calf on his left leg.
Flynn’s team will compete on Friday, August 30, 2024 (heats); Saturday, August 31, 2024 (repechages/second chances); and — hopefully — Sunday, September 1, 2024 (finals).
Flynn and his teammates were selected for the Olympics after competing at a selection camp in January in Sarasota, Florida. Flynn rows in the starboard position.
Flynn is no strangers to medals. Last year, Flynn and his team won the silver medal (PR3 Mixed Four with coxswain) at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
