LOWELL, MA — Massachusetts State Auditor Diana DiZoglio has endorsed Democratic candidate Sokhary Chau in his race for Register of Deeds.
“Sokhary Chau is a proven leader with a track record of delivering for our communities,” said DiZoglio. “I know that Sokhary will use his years of experience as a small business owner and elected official to secure new resources for the Registry, expand constituent services, and ensure that the Registry continues to be an invaluable resource for the communities and residents it serves. I’m proud to endorse Sokhary’s candidacy and look forward to helping him win this September.”
“I’m thrilled to have the support of Auditor DiZoglio, who has been a consistent and fearless voice for Middlesex County,” said Chau. “Auditor DiZoglio’s support is a testament to the vision our campaign has put forward. I hope to have the opportunity to work with her as Register to better our communities and the lives of everyone who calls them home.”
Chau is a longtime resident of Lowell, currently serving as a City Councilor. In 2022, he became the first Cambodian-American mayor in U.S. history. Chau is running to replace current Register of Deeds Richard Howe Jr., who announced his retirement after more than 30 years in the position. If elected, Chau has pledged to leverage his experience as an elected official to increase funding for the Registry, expand constituent services, and implement new technology to protect homeownership.
DiZoglio, who spoke at Chau’s campaign kickoff event, was elected State Auditor in 2022. She previously served as State Representative for the 14th Essex District from 2013-2019 and as state Senator for the 1st Essex District from 2019-2023. A native of Methuen and a former small business owner, DiZoglio served as Senate Chair for the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses.
Chau will be on the ballot in this fall’s Democratic Primary, Tuesday, September 3.
