OBITUARY: George L. Mugford, 94

WILMINGTON, MA — George L. Mugford, age 94, of Chelsea, formerly of Wilmington, passed away on his birthday, August 5, 2024, at The Chelsea Soldier’s Home.

George was born on August 5, 1930, in Chelsea, MA; he was the dear son of the late Emmie and Leander Mugford.

George proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. and was honored to be a Veteran.

He was employed by The Diamond Crystal Salt Company for many years, as a machinist, until his retirement. He was also a long-standing member of the Chelsea Yacht Club.

George is survived by his daughter, Kathy Ings, of Billerica, her two daughters, Wendy and Tracy, and his three great granddaughters. He is predeceased by his son, Lee Mugford, of Wilmington. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Mugford, of Wilmington, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of a funeral home service, George’s ashes will be spread at sea in keeping with his final wish, at a date yet to be determined.
