WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Youth Hockey Association is offering its Learn to Play Program this fall at Ristuccia Arena (190 Main Street).
Learn to Play is a program designed for young skaters ages 4 to 9 years old that have never played organized hockey. These skaters must have some experience skating, including being able to stay on their feet. This is not a learn to skate program although basic skills will be used. This program is an in-house, fun introduction to the game of hockey with an emphasis on skills: stops & starts, edgework, and puck handling. Players will develop skating and puck control skills of the individual player, learn basic shooting and passing skills, and learn basic game play. Depending on timing and availability, include local half ice scrimmaging with neighboring programs.
The Fall session runs for 14 weeks (twice a week). It begins on Saturday, September 14, 2024 and runs until Sunday, December 22, 2024. Ice time is Saturday (7am to 7:50am) and Sunday (2:40pm to 3:40pm).
Goals of the session include: (1) Developing skating and puck control skills of the individual player; (2) Introducing basic shooting and passing skills; (3) Introducing goalie position; and (4) Introducing basic game play.
The session costs $360. After the first week, the cost will be prorated. Equipment is provided except Skates, Stick & a Helmet.
