Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Jean Hughson (Murray), age 86, of Wilmington, passed away on July 14, 2024, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert P. Hughson who passed away in 1992.
Jean was born on August 7, 1937, in Wilmington, MA. She was the dear daughter of the late John William and Evangeline (Smith) Murray and one of three children.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Robert Hughson, together they raised their family of five children; to whom she was devoted.
Jean was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and communicant of St Thomas Parish, where she was a Eucharistic minister and volunteer. She was kind and generous. Her friendly nature suited her well as a counter person and face of the Wilmington Post Office for many residents over the years.
She was fiercely loyal to family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, excellent baker, and cook. She enjoyed camping throughout her life. She loved to walk and could beat anyone to the top of a hill, even in her eighties.
She was a Boston Bruins superfan who attended countless practices, training and rookie camps. From Bobby Orr to Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, she was always watching. She was so intensely and emotionally invested that she often had to take a walk during close playoff games.
In recent years, some of her favorite places were Harold Parker State Forest, Ogunquit, and Gloucester.
Jean was delighted in the company of family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for bringing people together. Jean’s kindness and love for her friends and family will be remembered by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her five children: Catherine and Dave Norton of Wilmington, Robert and Don Hughson of Florida, Steven and Denise Hughson of Boylston, Sandra and Frank Riley of Wilmington, and John and Tricia Hughson of Wilmington. Loving “Gram” of David Norton, Scott Norton, Zack Norton, Lisa Wheeler, Kristin Tilbe, Joyelle Dumont, Jeffrey Hughson, Matthew Hughson, Alex Hughson, Melissa Tolomeo, Kaitlyn Dagenais, Christina DiRienzo, John Hughson and Ryan Hughson. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was the sister of Barbara Scaduto of NJ. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Her niece, Cheryl Lesnik, has been especially close. A lunch companion for years and there for her final days and minutes. She is survived by her very special friend Barbara Doucette and her sister-in law Junie Austin.
Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Robert P. Hughson, her sister and best friend Betty Saulnier, her loving grandson Steven Robert Hughson, and her loving great-grandson Zachary Tilbe.
While we mourn her passing, we also will celebrate the love she shared. We are all so appreciative of the memories we made and are so incredibly lucky to have had her for so many years. May her memory continue to bring comfort and joy to those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank our friends at Gentiva Hospice Care and Briarwood Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided to Jean.
