Museum Assistant Intern (Unpaid)

Hours: 16 / week, Monday & Tuesday (Flexible)
About Us: The Wilmington Town Museum at the Col. Joshua Harnden Tavern is owned by the Town of Wilmington, Massachusetts and is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of the town. The Museum is housed in an historic 18th century tavern which is an excellent example of quality construction practices of the late 18th century. Exhibits are also on display in the adjacent late 19th century carriage house.
The Museum is open year round on Monday and Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm; or by appointment. Open houses are held on the first Sunday of the month between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The carriage house is open in conjunction with the museum’s hours weather permitting.
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Museum Assistant Intern to help our Curator in daily operations. These operations include archival processing, collections management, leading tours, and other applicable duties. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of museum operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and installation of exhibits
- Help catalog and manage museum collections
- Lead tours of the museum for visitors
- Provide excellent customer service
- Conduct research related to museum projects and exhibits
- Aid in the creation of marketing materials and social media content
- Perform administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate in Museum Studies, History, Art, Anthropology, or any related field.
- Strong interest in museum work and cultural heritage.
- Knowledge in history is a plus
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with social media platforms
- Previous museum or non-profit experience is preferred but not required
- Experience with PastPerfect 5.0 museum software is preferred but not required
