WILMINGTON, MA — Cynthia M. Gelston, 91, of Greenacres, FL, and previously a long-time resident of Vernon, CT, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Wellington, Florida. She was born on May 23,1933, in North Woburn, MA, daughter to William Corneliussen and Frances (Hancock) Corneliussen. She grew up in Wilmington, MA, where she lived on Silver Lake and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1951.
Cindy had various jobs and interests during her lifetime. She was a newspaper reporter, model, electronics technician, real estate agent, antique dealer, sign language instructor, writer, and pastor. She loved to camp, hike, swim, and garden. She married the late Reverend Angus H. Gelston in 1969 and they were married for 50 years. She and her husband Angus served churches in Pachaug, CT, New Fairfield, CT, Freeland, PA, and Drums, PA. The most important thing in Cindy’s life was her Christian faith. She also served her communities as a sign language instructor, teaching at schools, fire departments, police departments, church organizations, and adult education.
Cindy is survived by her son Russell St. Hilaire and his wife Kay of Greenacres, FL as well as her five grandchildren, Katherine, Anne, Amber, Aaron, and Randall St. Hilaire. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Brendan St. Hilaire and Randall St. Hilaire, as well as her sister, Sylvia (Corneliussen) Davis.
A memorial service was held at the Cider Mill Christian Fellowship Church, 75 Cider Mill Rd., in Tolland, CT, on Friday, July 12, 2024, beginning at 1 p.m. Visiting hours were held at the Ladd & Carmon Funeral Home, 19 Ellington Ave., Rockville, CT, from 5-7 p.m. following the memorial service on Friday. Graveside Service and Burial was held on Saturday, July 13th at 11:30 a.m. in Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave. (please use second cemetery entrance off of Wildwood Street), Wilmington, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society and The American Lung Association.
