Below is the “From The Manager’s Desk” column from the latest Town Topics Newsletter. This is new Town Manager Eric Slagle’s first column:
WILMINGTON, MA — I am excited to begin my term as Town Manager for Wilmington, and I am looking forward to working with Town residents and staff to move the Town forward. I would certainly like to thank all of the members of the Town Manager Screening Committee, the members of the Select Board and Community Paradigm Associates for their work in the hiring process.
Additionally, I would like to thank all of the department heads and staff for their hard work and collaboration. The Town would not be able to run as smoothly and efficiently as it does without their dedication.
The Town had a successful Annual Town Meeting on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The Fiscal Year 2025 budget was passed by the members of Town Meeting, and we are ready to move into our next fiscal year.
The Town will be planning a Special Town Meeting this fall to take up business that was not completed at the Annual Town Meeting. Specifically, residents will be asked to consider amending the Zoning Bylaw and Zoning District Map to create a new MBTA Communities Multi-family Overlay District, which was referred back to the Planning Board.
Finally, I would like to thank Lou Cimaglia, Director of Veterans Services, for his service to the Town as Temporary Town Manager over the past seven months. He did yeoman’s work keeping the Town on the right path. He could not have done it successfully without the support of both the staff in the Manager’s Office and the staff in the Veterans’ Office. Kudos to Bev Dalton, Tom Donahue, Kathy Godfrey, Anthony Accardi, Judy O’Connell, Mike Frotten and Patti Meehan for keeping Lou sane.
